First Consultation

We think keeping our patients in the know is really important. During your initial consultation, you’ll meet your
surgeon and will be walked through your diagnosis and treatment options. This is a great time to ask questions – we’ll make sure you get clear, simple answers.

Sometimes surgery can be performed the day of your consultation, but more complex treatments or medical history may require you reschedule for a subsequent visit.

When you do come in we’ll ask that you fill out a questionnaire about your medical history, so we can better treat you. Also, please bring in your surgical referral slip, any X-rays (if applicable) and a list of medications you are currently taking.

IMPORTANT:

All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.
A preoperative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or drink eight hours prior to your surgery. You will also need an adult to drive you home.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications,
aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

A note on x-rays ad CT scans

If your dentist has taken x-rays, you may request that they be forwarded to our office. If there’s not enough time, please pick them up and bring them along with you. Any additional x-rays can be done at our clinic.

There are times when we’ll require a patient get a CT (computed tomography) scan so we can better assess treatment options. Should this be the case, we will refer you to one of our affiliated hospitals – Humber River Regional Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital or Rogue Valley Centenary Hospital.
